Our instructor

Ms. Shahwar Abdullah

English Language Instructor at ICD

Shahwar is an enthusiastic Instructor at ICD, specializing in test preparation for IELTS, PTE and Duolingo, as well as teaching General English. She forged an unbreakable bond with literature at a very young age, ignited by the brilliance of Shakespeare, which eventually led her to graduate with an exceptional CGPA of 3.95 in English Literature. Her early attempts to unravel some of the most remarkable literary works sparked an insatiable curiosity in her mind and compelled her to read between the lines. Hence, she delved into the world of exploring the intricate layers of meaning and symbolism embedded in every single word which deepened her passion for both language and literature. Currently, she is completing her certification in TEFL & TKT (Cambridge) to further solidify her EFL teaching skills.

General English Course Structure Overview

Course Duration: 8 weeks (Every Saturday)

Module 1: Reading & Writing Foundations

 

Weeks 1–4

 

In this module, we will focus on building a strong foundation in Reading and Writing skills. You will develop essential skills to understand texts and express yourself clearly in writing.

 

Reading Skills:

• Improve your ability to read and comprehend a variety of texts, from simple paragraphs to longer articles.
• Learn strategies to identify key ideas, infer meanings, and improve reading speed and accuracy.
• Enhance your vocabulary through exposure to different types of reading material.

 

Writing Skills:

• Learn how to structure sentences and paragraphs effectively.
• Practice writing clear and coherent texts, including emails, short essays, and daily notes.
• Focus on grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary to write with accuracy and fluency.

 

Module 2: Speaking & Listening Skills

 

Weeks 5–8

 

This module focuses on improving Speaking and Listening skills, helping you communicate confidently and understand English spoken by native speakers.

 

Speaking Skills:

• Develop fluency and confidence in speaking with practical exercises in everyday conversations.
• Learn how to pronounce words clearly, use correct intonation, and manage different speech situations (e.g., introductions, ordering food, making requests).
• Engage in group discussions, role plays, and presentations to build communication skills.

 

Listening Skills:

• Strengthen your ability to understand spoken English in various accents and contexts.

• Listen to audio materials such as dialogues, interviews, and podcasts to practice understanding natural speech.
• Learn strategies to improve listening for key information and details.
