What certificates can I earn?
Teaching English as a Foreign Language. At ICD, the qualification is built around Cambridge's TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) modules.
Can I do the whole course online?
Coursework is completed online through ICD's portal, and the weekly face-to-face session can also be attended online if you prefer. The TKT module exams themselves, however, must be taken in person at an ICD office.
How long does it take to get my certificate?
It depends on which certificate: your Cambridge TKT certificate for each module arrives in up to 6 weeks (paper-based exam). You can get your certificate from your nearest ICD centre, separately, approximately two weeks after you complete the course.
What English level do I need?
A minimum of C1 to join Pre-CELTA. Note that CELTA itself requires a considerably higher level for non-native speakers (CEFR C1/C2, or IELTS 7.5+) — Pre-CELTA is designed to help you build up to that standard.
Do I need prior teaching experience?
No. A strong interest in teaching English as a foreign language is what's needed — not prior experience.
When should I register?
Build a clearer understanding of essential teaching concepts and classroom practice.
Can I take only one module?
Build a clearer understanding of essential teaching concepts and classroom practice.
Is CELTA Foundation a Cambridge qualification?
No. CELTA Foundation is ICD's own in-house preparation programme — it is not accredited or awarded by Cambridge Assessment English. CELTA itself, which Pre-CELTA prepares you for, is the Cambridge-accredited qualification.
What if English isn't my first language?
Falmouth requires IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (5.5 in Reading/Writing/Listening, 6.0 in Speaking).
Can I use AI tools during the course?
Some uses are permitted — like brainstorming lesson ideas or sourcing authentic materials — but AI cannot be used to draft your lesson plans or written assignments. Every submission requires a declaration of whether AI was used and how. See ICD's full AI Ethics & Usage Policy for details.
What grades can I get?
Pass A, Pass B, Pass, or Fail. Cambridge internally assesses and externally moderates every course through an approved assessor.
What will I be able to do afterwards the course?
Explain the format of each IELTS section to your students, teach strategies and techniques for Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, and give feedback on writing and speaking performance using the test's public band descriptors.
